The General District Courts handle traffic violations, Reckless Driving and DUI charges, misdemeanors like assault, petit larceny, trespassing and Drunk in Public.  Virginia General District Courts also hold felony arraignments and preliminary hearings for felony charges. If a case goes to trial in Virginia General District Court, it is decided by a judge, not a jury.
